HARDCORE hardcourt action gives way to graceful dance moves and acrobatics as the UAAP holds its popular cheerdance competition on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The University of the Philippines Pep Squad is seeking a third straight title and eyeing a place alongside the University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe as the most successful cheerdance group with eight titles. Salinggawi last won the UAAP title in 2006.

The event has no bearing on the general championship. Competition starts at 2 p.m.

UP bagged the P340,000 top prize last season, the La Salle Animo Squad had a surprise second-place finish and claimed the P200,000 prize, while the Far Eastern University cheering squad placed third and won P140,000.

The Salinggawi Dance Troupe managed only fourth, missing out on a podium finish for the first time since 1998, followed by the Adamson Pep Squad, National University Cheering Squadron, Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion and University of the East Pep Squad.
