BITTER rivals in college and enemies on Twitter, Terrence Romeo and Nico Salva said they are ready to put their feud behind them after ending up on the same team at the end of the PBA rookie draft.
Just months after an angry exchange on Twitter after Salva criticized Romeo for his "individualistic play" in a game with Far Eastern University, the two only have kind words for each other after both were selected by Globalport in a surprise-filled draft at Robinsons Place in Manila.
Romeo, taken with the No. 5 pick overall which Globalport got from Barako Bull in a three-step trade also involving Petron, was quick to play down the feud with Salva which he said was nothing more than a burst of emotion.
"Wala naman kasi 'yun. Walang galit or something, biglaang init ng ulo lang," said the flamboyant Romeo. "It's nothing personal."
Salva was also more than willing to put the past behind him, saying he had the chance to play with Romeo in the pre-draft tryouts and found the former FEU star a good teammate.
"Wala naman na 'yun. Kasi nag-scrimmage na rin naman kami last week together, magkakampi kami and maganda naman yung flow ng game," said the former Ateneo star, who was taken by Globalport with the first pick of the second round at No. 11 overall.
"So more than anything, excited ako to be teammates with RR (Garcia) and Terrence and the rest of the team."
Romeo praised Salva, saying it was a joy to be on the same team with the multi-titled Blue Eagle.
"Sobrang sarap makasama ni Salva. Ang talino maglaro, sobrang approachable siya lalo pag nasa court kami. Madali kami nakakapag-usap, nakapag-practice na kami one time," said Romeo.
For Salva, the college rivalry will have to be set aside as the three of them mark a new beginning in their careers.
"With RR and Terrence this is not FEU and Ateneo anymore. This is the PBA now, we're teammates and we have to work together," he said.
"Syempre, we have to know each other's strengths and weaknesses and I look forward to playing with them. They are good shooters, they are good passers and they will make basketball easier for anyone."
