RAJKO Toroman said on Saturday that he is cut out to be a coach and not a consultant, the reason he sought his release from the San Miguel organization and is currently deep in negotiations to take over the Barako Bull coaching job.

The Serbian coach obtained a release from his contract as Petron consultant on Saturday morning, saying he no longer felt "important" with the organization that took him in at the end of his tenure as Smart Gilas coach.

“I feel I wasn’t important. So I left (San Miguel) because I really want a head coaching job," said the 52-year-old veteran coach. “There is a difference between coaching and being a consultant.

“I am not a consultant. It’s not in my nature. I am really looking for an opportunity to coach, and there goes the offer (from Barako).”

Toroman met with top Barako Bull officials on Saturday at the Shangri-La but no deal was finalized. Instead the two parties are scheduled to meet again early next week to seal an agreement.

Toroman also made a vehement denial on claims that he was dumped by San Miguel to Barako Bull, which for so long has faced accusations of being a "sister team" of the SMC ballclubs.

"No, that’s why I wanted a release (from San Miguel," he said. "Don’t believe that rumor."

Both parties declined to reveal the final kinks on the negotiations, but Toroman stressed that he wants to take full control of the Barako’s basketball program.

“We will discuss the final details and I want to finish off what I started with Petron at Barako," said Toroman, who revealed he also has a three-year contract offer from Iranian ballclub Maharaj.

“We’ll just discuss some details about the team, I don’t want to jump immediately because I want the job," he added.
