WHILE awaiting its finals opponent in the Commissioner's Cup, Talk 'N Text has laid the groundworks for its Governors Cup campaign by tapping 2014 NBA D-League co-MVP Othyus Jeffers.
Jeffers, an NBA veteran who played for the Utah Jazz, San Antonio Spurs, the Washington Wizards and lately, the Minnesota Timberwolves in a total of 37 games, was described as an “all-around player” by Talk ‘N Text coach Norman Black.
“He’s a good all-around player. He does everything. He was just named co-MVP of the NBA D-League,” Black said in briefly describing the 28-year-old former standout out of Robert Morris University.
The Tropang Texters' current reinforcement, Richard Howell, is the top candidate for the Best Import award.
Listed at 6-5, Jeffers, who owns NBA averages of 3.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 11.9 minutes, is expected to bring in his defensive skills to a Tropang Texters squad that has yet to lose a game in the Commissioner’s Cup.
The Chicago, Illinois, native has been named to the NBA D-League All-Defensive team twice (2011 and 2014) and is a three-time D-League All-Star as well.
The 210-pound Jeffers played in 44 of the Iowa Energy’s 50 regular season games before earning a call-up to the Timberwolves early last April.
The wide-bodied Jeffers averaged a team-high 20.9 points, eighth-best in the NBA D-League, along with 9.9 rebounds and 2.2 steals. He led Iowa in scoring 20 times and was the team’s top rebounder in 20 games.
