THE Philippine youth basketball team annihilated Laos, 124-28, on Wednesday night to open their campaign in the Seaba Under-18 championships with a bang at the Singapore Sports Center.
Mario Bonleon of La Salle Greenhills had 24 points to lead six players in double figures for the Nationals.
The game was practically over when the Philippines finished the first quarter with a 34-10 lead. The Philippines limited the Laotians to only single digits in scoring per quarter, including only two in the second as they took a 64-12 halftime lead.
Rey Nambatac of Letran finished with 17 points while Kent Lao of University of Santo Tomas had 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Filipino cagers, who are gunning for a slot in the Fiba-Asia Under-18 championships in Mongolia.
The Nationals scored 102 points in the paint and had 46 turnover points.
The Philippine team, coached by Olsen Racela will next face host Singapore on Thursday.
The Singaporeans, who defeated Laos, 123-19, in the opener last Tuesday, were playing Indonesia as of posting time.
