THE PBA will be asking Ateneo management to compensate Blackwater Sports players and officials who lost cash and other valuables after the D-League team's dugout at the Blue Eagle Gym was ransacked by thieves during a game on Tuesday.
PBA officials present during the D-League game between Blackwater and EA Regen said they have asked team officials to submit an incident report to the league, which in turn will hand over the document to Ateneo.
PBA commissioner Chito Salud later confirmed the league’s move in a statement.
“We will request a thorough investigation and full compensation/replacement of the lost property, if warranted by circumstances,” said Salud.
More than P60,000 in cash and mobile gadgets from 10 players including former Ateneo cagers Bacon Austria and Justine Chua were reported stolen by thieves from the Blackwater Sports’ dugout on Tuesday.
The robbery occurred while the team's match against EA Regen Medical Group was in progress at the Blue Eagle Gym inside Ateneo's campus in Quezon City.
When asked for comment, Ateneo athletic director Ricky Palou said he was puzzled as to how thieves were able to break into the Blackwater dugout.
"I don’t know what happened,” said Palou, who was set to leave for the United States with the Blue Eagles when contacted for comment by Spin.ph on Tuesday.
Palou, a former PBA official himself, added: “We will wait for investigation first kung paano nangyari ‘yun. We will see what happens."
