Patience the key as misfiring Yap looks to bounce back

FORMER MVP James Yap has vowed to be more patient with his shots as he and B-Meg look to bounce back against Rain or Shine in Game Two of the PBA Governors Cup Finals on Wednesday.

Although he led the Llamados with 19 points, the B-Meg superstar was a horrific 8-of-23 clip from the field -- including a sorry 1-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc -- in the series opener which the Llamados lost, 91-80. He also went just 2-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao rotated a slew of defenders on the two-time league MVP, with Ronjay Buenafe, Jireh Ibañes, and Ryan Araña taking their turns in trying to shackle Yap.

But the pride of Escalante, Negros Occidental said it's not much the Painters’ defense but the manner in which he rushed his shots that led to the poor shooting show.

“Masyado ako nagmamadali, natatakam sa mga tira,” Yap admitted.

The shooting guard out of University of the East  promised things will be different in Game Two as the Llamados try to even the best-of-seven series.

“Game One lang yun. Alam ko na gagawin ko next game,” said Yap, the Finals MVP when the Llamados won their first title under Tim Cone in the Commissioner's Cup.

As a team, Yap also believes the Llamados should be able to adjust to the Painters’ highly physical approach.

“Rain or Shine is a very physical team,” Yap said. “We need to adapt to that kind of game.”

Saw the stat sheet from the game. I believe James took 23 shots and their import Blakely only had 12. If his shot still won't fall in game 2 maybe it's time for them to let Marqus carry the load offensively the way Cornley is lifting the Elastopainters to victory.

Thought he was gonna catch fire when he hit the 17 pt mark in the 3rd quarter last night. Nawala rin pala. He just has to keep on shooting! Jamelle Cornley is the main reason RoS is winning. They have to get him in foul trouble!
