BASKETBALL games in both the UAAP and NCAA scheduled from Thursday to the weekend have been shelved as Metro Manila deals with the severe flooding that have hit the metropolis.

The NCAA management committee decided to postpone the juniors and seniors matches for Thursday and Saturday by taking into consideration the "recovery situation in flooded areas," according to ManCom chairman Fr. Vic Calvo, O.P. of Letran.

Likewise, the NCAA official also said other NCAA member schools are being used as evacuation sites at the moment.

The Thursday double-header featured Jose Rizal University against Letran, as well as the highly anticipated match-up between defending champion San Beda and powerhouse San Sebastian.

The Saturday games pitting Mapua against Arellano, and San Beda against Letran will actually be postponed for the second time. The matches were originally set July 21 but had to be moved to another date owing to tropical depression Ferdie.

Over at the UAAP, the scheduled Saturday games have also been postponed as the Philsports Arena, where the games were supposed to be held, is currently being used as evacuation center for flood victims.

Junel Baculi, the UAAP secretary-treasurer, made the confirmation on Wednesday, which also saw a pair of featured matches being deferred owing to the continuous rain brought about the southwest monsoon.

For Saturday, the games shelved at the Philsports Arena are between University of Santo Tomas and Adamson at 2 p.m. and University of the Philippines and University of the East at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, Baculi added the postponed La Salle-Adamson, and UE-UST matches on Wednesday will be played on Sunday (August 12) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The supposed slated games on August 12 between National University and La Salle, and Far Eastern University and Ateneo have been moved instead to Saturday (August 18) also at the Big Dome.
