EVEN giants get the jitters.
June Mar Fajardo admitted he felt nervous when he appeared before PBA commissioner Chito Salud on Thursday afternoon at the league office in Quezon City to air his side on the fracas that marred the San Miguel Beer-Globalport tune-up game last Tuesday.
“Medyo kinabahan din. First time ko na-involve sa ganito,” said Fajardo, who was summoned for the first time in his young two-year career.
The Beermen’s star slotman, though, maintained his innocence in the scuffle with Jondan Salvador.
“Basta ako wala akong kasalanan. Pisikal naman 'yung laro. Pisikal siya maglaro. Hindi dapat umabot sa ganun,” said Fajardo, who refused to delve into the details.
“Mainit ang laro. Nadala lang siguro. Sana hindi na maulit, added the 2014 Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference, who met with Salud along with teammate Arwind Santos.
SMB reserve Moncrief Rogado, who accompanied his teammates to the Libis-based office, came to the defense of fellow Cebuano Fajardo.
“Kilala ko 'yan. Hindi talaga siya mahilig sa away,” said Rogado, who played alongside Fajardo at University of Cebu.
Salvador and Mark Yee, who was apparently involved in the fracas as well, were scheduled to meet with Salud on Friday afternoon.
Only then can the league make a decision on the matter, according to PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial, who is expecting some video evidence to help their judgment.
“Vinerify namin yung mga statement nila,” Marcial said. “Hintay lang namin yung video. May video o wala, we will come up with a decision tomorrow.”
Alaska import Bill Walker and teammate Gabby Espinas, and Meralco’s Danny Ildefonso, Gary David, and James Sena likewise met with Salud on Thursday regarding a separate altercation also last Tuesday.
