DE LA SALLE assured itself of at least a playoff for the No. 4 seeding in the Final Four after beating Adamson, 72-59, on Thursday in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Green Archers ended the eliminations with a 9-5 win-loss record and could gain the Final Four slot outright if National University loses to Far Eastern University on Sunday.
La Salle coach Gee Abanilla is satisfied with how their eliminations campaign, but is keeping his fingers crossed.
“I want to commend the boys for doing a good job. We had some problems initially with health problems and sabay pa sa exams. But I think the boys sacrificed a lot,” Abanilla said.
“Our destiny is in our hands kaya ginawa namin ‘yung dapat naming gawin,” he added.
The Green Archers made its run in the third quarter as they turned a 27-21 lead into a 49-37 advantage going into the fourth.
Jeron Teng had 19 points and nine assists while Norbert Torres delivered 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Green Archers, who won five of their seven outings in the second round to get back into the Final Four frame.
“We finished the second round with a good record. At least, one foot nasa loob na (in the Final Four). Hindi namin masasabi kung ano destiny namin, kung automatic seat, mas masaya,” said Abanilla.
Adamson finished at 3-11 a year after finishing second in the elims.
