GLOBALPORT management is upset over a photo showing import Walter Sharpe reportedly drunk and dozing off in a parking area fronting a row of bars beside the City Golf driving range along Julia Vargas in Pasig city early Monday morning.
Spin.ph was furnished a picture of Sharpe lying on the pavement just behind a parked car. The same picture had already reached officials and coaches of the team.
“Galit na galit ang coaching staff, gustong pag-paliwanagin ang import. Kasi bakit daw gabing-gabi nasa galaan pa. Nasa hotel na siya, umalis pa,” said the Batang Pier official who refused to be identified pending an official investigation on the matter.
The incident happened just hours after the Batang Pier suffered their sixth straight loss in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup opposite the Alaska Aces, 93-85, on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Sharpe, who suited up for the Detroit Pistons in 2008-09, had a nightmarish outing as he finished with just two points and five rebounds before fouling out with 4:23 left in the game.
A source from Globalport said Sharpe had already been brought to his hotel after the game, but later asked his driver to take him to City Golf driving range supposedly to meet with some friends at around 11 p.m.
The 6-foot-9 NBA veteran then ordered his driver to go home, saying he will just take a cab back to his hotel.
Hours later, Sharpe was seen lying sound asleep in the parking lot as bystanders took snapshots.
Some witnesses claimed Sharpe had one drink too many, although there were also claims that the former University of Alabama-Birmingham stalwart is suffering from narcolepsy, a neurological disorder that causes frequent sleep attacks.
The import is set to be summoned by both management and coaching staff shortly after the Batang Pier’s practice on Tuesday morning to allow him to explain his side.
