FAR Eastern University assistant coach Ronald Magtulis has been slapped with a one-game suspension by the UAAP for an altercation with the father of Ateneo star Nico Salva last Thursday at the Philsports Arena.
The spat was an offshoot of an altercation the FEU assistant coach had with the younger Salva that happened while the Tamaraws were on their way out of the court following a 73-70 win over University of the Philippines.
According to witnesses, Magtulis hurled invectives at the younger Salva who was then with the whole Blue Eagles team waiting to take the court for their scheduled game against National University.
Upon learning about the incident, Salva's father confronted the former PBA player at halftime of the Ateneo-NU game. Magtulis responded by challenging Salva’s father to a fight, reports said.
Last August 29, Magtulis and the younger Salva got into a heated exchange of words following Ateneo’s 77-64 win over FEU - the same game that saw Arvie Bringas spit on the face of Justin Chua.
Magtulis will serve his suspension on Sunday in FEU’s rematch with National University which Bringas will also sit out owing to a suspension for the Chua incident.
Meanwhile, Ateneo has dropped its complaint against Bringas, who the school alleged challenged a few Blue Eagle players to a fight outside the Smart Araneta Coliseum after the heated game on August 29.
The league, however, warned that any similar act will be punished.
