DESPITE Ginebra ending up as the No. 8 seed entering the PBA Commissioner’s Cup playoffs, rookie center Greg Slaughter remained optimistic the team could do well against unbeaten top seed Talk 'N Text.
“We’re still in the playoffs. We’ll just have to do it the hard way. We just have to keep our heads up, keep the energy up, keep playing the way we’re playing, play better, and bring it on Tuesday,” said Slaughter.
The big man out of Ateneo was a force to be reckoned with in the Kings’ game against Rain or Shine, pouring in 22 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. But his effort went for naught as Ginebra lost in overtime, 105-101.
The 6-foot-11 Slaughter also missed two crucial free throws in the final 8.3 seconds of regulation that could have won the game for the Kings, but last season’s top rookie pick had no regrets at all.
“I think we played good today. I just missed free throws in the end that could have given us a better shot in the end,” said Slaughter, whose team finished the single-round eliminations with a 3-6 win-loss record.
The loss to Rain or Shine left the Kings with no choice but to beat the Tropang Texters twice this week to advance to the best-of-five semifinals.
Talk ‘N Text captured the no. 1 seed after sweeping its nine-game elimination round assignment and is coming off a two-week break.
