ATENEO continued to stockpile its pool of talent with high school standouts after obtaining a commitment from Jay Javelosa of Reedley International School for next season, a source told Spin.ph.
The 6-foot-5 Javelosa is the latest high school star bound for the Katipunan-based school for Season 77 of the UAAP when the Blue Eagles try to reclaim lost glory after missing out on the Final Four last year.
Javelosa, who is already attending Ateneo practices, was part of the Blue Eaglets squad early in his high school career before moving to Reedley.
Though not as well-known as other marquee high school players in both the UAAP and the NCAA, Javelosa already accomplished a lot in his young basketball career.
Javelosa was a former member of the Philippine Youth team under head coach Olsen Racela and was part of the squad that finished fourth in the 2011 FIBA-Asia Under-16 Championship.
Recently, Javelosa was a member of the Philippine team to the Adidas Nations 2013 that competed against the world’s best, and had for his teammates Tolentino, Jerie Pingoy, Prince Rivero, and Mario Bonleon.
