PH sepak takraw team savors golden feat

THE Philippine sepak takraw team scored a huge surprise, bringing home a gold medal from the 27th King's Cup World Championships in Thailand.

The men’s team of Rhey Jey Ortouste, Jason Huerte, Arnel Isorena and Jon Jon Bobier defeated Brunei in five sets to capture the title.

The team, mostly composed of new recruits, faced United States, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Cambodia, Brunei in the tournament.

Coach Rodolfo Eco hopes that they can sustain the momentum for Philippine sepak takraw, perennial bronze medal winners in the Southeast Asian Games.

“Kailangan namin ng marami pang exposure sa laban para magkaroon pa kami ng kumpiyansa,” said Eco.

The King's Cup is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the region, consistently drawing the participation of countries like France, Germany, Australia and Iran.
