Canadian O'Halloran rules sprint triathlon

Canadian rules Batangas sprint triathlon; Torres takes women's title

MATTHEW O'HALLORAN of Canada won the Elite Male title in the sprint distance Tri United triathlon race on Sunday at Playa Laiya in San Juan, Batangas.

O'Halloran finished the two-kilometer swim, 60km bike and 15km run in two hours, 50 minutes and 27 seconds. Benjamin Rana clocked 3:08:26 for second place while August Benedicto was third in 3:09:02.

Monica Torres timed 3:19:55 to rule the women's division, beating former national champion Ani de Leon-Brown who clocked 3:31:06.

Other winners in the sprint distance were Eric Stroem (18-24 years category), Marisol Abad and Luigi Robles (25-29), Andrea Barreto (30-34), Brian Acosta and Kate Abelarde (35-39), Oliver Kempo and Maricel Laxa Pangilinan (40-44), Ronald Honrede (45-49), Edwin Cagiyat (50-54), and Gary Brown (55-above).

The third and final leg of the series will be held at Ayala Alabang Village in Muntinlupa City in November.
