THE Muay Association of the Philippines is currently holding its National Open Championship which will be held until Sunday at the Philsports Arena.

National head coach Roland Claro said more than 300 athletes from more than 35 chapters, affiliated and non-affiliated members of MAP, are entered in the competition that kicked off its eliminations on Friday.

There are a total of nine categories each in the men and women, while a juniors tournament is already slated in the national open.

Claro said the competition is part of the talent identification program of MAP under president Lucas Managuelod and secretary general Pearl Managuelod.

“Para ma-develop ‘yung mga atleta na may potential, ginawa naming open para dito mapipili ‘yung mga best athletes,” said Claro.

Claro said they plan to already recruit athletes from the national team in this tournament as the muay squad is scheduled to compete in the Southeast Asian Games and World Championship next year.
