Ayo glad La Salle overcame early distractions, braces for 'dogfight' in Final Four vs Adamson
Aldin Ayo was glad the Archers moved past some early season distractions with a second-round sweep.

LA Salle coach Aldin Ayo said the Green Archers’ razor-sharp focus was the key in their sweep of the second round of UAAP Season 80 as they now turn their focus on the Final Four battle against Adamson.

The Green Archers swept their second round assignments on a season where they lost two games in the early part of the year to begin their title defense.

Ayo admitted there were distractions that marred the first round campaign but the team was able to shrug that off during the second half of the season.

“I can say that there were lots of distractions in the first round,” Ayo said, without elaborating. “But we were able to overcome them. We were able to focus in the second round, being committed to the objective which was to win the championship.”

It was that same focus that led the Green Archers to a big win over the Blue Eagles in the final day of the eliminations. In completing the sweep of the second round, La Salle defeated Ateneo, 79-76, in a game in which the Green Archers scored the last 10 points to complete the stunning comeback.

“They executed the game plan. Because I’m not going to quit. We are not going to wait there and allow them to beat us. We are going to do our part. We are going to compete and do whatever it takes just to win in the right way,” said Ayo.

With the regular season behind them, La Salle turns its attention on Adamson, a team it swept in the elimination round.

Ayo, however, expects the Falcons to go all out especially with the Franz Pumaren-mentored squad needing to win twice to advance into the finals.

Adamson also made La Salle sweat last year before the Green Archers won, 69-64, in their Final Four outing.

“Same expectation. It will be a dogfight. They will prepare against us. Our last game was close. It was decided in the last two minutes. For sure, it will be difficult for us. But we are going to prepare,” said Ayo.
