Phoenix veteran Willy Wilson returns with a new hairdo, but remains as reliable as ever

SO what's with Willy Wilson's hair?

Coach Ariel Vanguardia doesn't like it and so do the rest of his Phoenix teammates, who even chipped in P10 each just for him to have a haircut.

Their wish won't be granted anytime soon.

Back from a case of amoebiasis, the undersized power forward said he's been trying to grow his hair long for a change, adding he plans to get a haircut - just not soon.

"I like it but when summer time comes around, it's gonna be too hot. So I have to cut it," he said.

New hairdo or not, Wilson's game hasn't changed a bit even after having to sit out the team's past few games due to his ailment.

The 36-year-old big man out of La Salle finished with 12 points and nine rebounds in 30 minutes of play as the Fuel Masters defeated NLEX, 102-91, on Wednesday night to remain on track for a PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinal berth.

"I got sick. My muscles got dehydrated. So I took some time off," he said.

Wilson is not yet 100 percent healthy but he's happy just to be back playing again.

"I'm just starting to feel a little bit better," he said. "Everyday that goes by, I'm trying to get back more and more of myself."

Vanguardia lauded the effort of Wilson coming back from the injury list, but ribbed him about his hair.

"We'd been teasing him about his hair, but at least Willy Wilson is back," said the Phoenix coach.

Vanguardia will get his wish a few months from now. But at the moment, Wilson prefers to have his curly hair just the way it is.

"The hair has nothing to do with that," he said when asked if he plays better with a long hair. "Im just trying to get healthy and try to help the team in anywhich way I can."
