Batangas, Davao eyed as hosts as PBA sticking to same Luzon-Visayas-Mindanao All-Star format

LOS ANGELES – The PBA is set to bring its All-Star act back to Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao for the upcoming season.

The huge success of last year’s staging that pitted Gilas Pilipinas against three different All-Star teams in Lucena, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro, respectively, made the league decide to stick to the same formula for the mid-season spectacle next year.

Although the move still needs formality, the board already agreed to the set-up during its last regular meeting prior to its scheduled annual planning session here.

Batangas is being considered as the venue for the Luzon leg and Davao for Mindanao. No hosting province has yet to be identified for the Visayas stopover.

Last year, Gilas used the All-Star as part of its preparation for both the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) tournament and the FIBA Asia Cup, respectively.

Whether Gilas will still play in the annual spectacle is still uncertain as it has yet to be tackled by the board.

Meantime, the league is also considering the staging of another three-game schedule simultaneously on opening day in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

But nothing is definite about it yet even with the season opener just a little over a month from now.

The PBA did the same thing during the 2013-14 season when it held the opener in three different places, namely Smart Araneta Coliseum (Luzon), Cebu Coliseum (Visayas), and USEP gymnasium in Davao (Mindanao).
