KIA Motors playing coach Manny Pacquiao’s first order of business now that he has resumed his dual duties for the PBA ballclub is to beef up the Sorento’s roster.
Pacquiao, just three days removed from a successful title defense of his World Boxing Organization welterweight crown against challenger Chris Algieri, blamed the lack of scoring punch in KIA’s roster as one of the reasons why the team has lost its last seven matches.
“Kulang (ng scorers), siguro magda-dagdag pa kami ng mga players pag may nakita na kami,” the world boxing icon told Spin.ph inside the team’s dugout, just before the Sorento’s match against the defending champion Purefoods Star on Wednesday at the Ynares Center, Antipolo.
However, the 35-year-old rookie playing coach said at this point, the KIA coaching staff has yet to make any initial recommendations.
“Wala pa naman, nagi-scout pa.”
Pacquiao actually holds a 1-0 win-loss record as playing-coach, having steered KIA to an 80-66 whipping of fellow expansion squad Blackwater on opening night last month at the Philippine Arena.
The fighting congressman from Saranggani played less than five minutes in the game, though his inspiring words at halftime roused the team back to life as the Sorento recovered from a double-digit deficit.
KIA, however, has gone winless in Pacquiao's absence.
