GlobalPort bid to tap Thai-American Tyler Lamb as Asian import hits eligibility snag

GlobalPort bid to tap Thai-American Lamb as Asian import hits eligibility snag

Thai-American Tyler Lamb arrived a few days ago to suit up for GlobalPort.

GLOBALPORT’S plan to tap the services of an Asian import for the PBA Governors’ Cup hit a snag after prospect Tyler Lamb encountered eligibilty problems.

The Batang Pier were close to signing the Thai-American guard and even flew him in on Wednesday, but Lamb has yet to pass requirements that team manager Bonnie Tan didn’t specify.

Sought for comment, PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial explained that under league rules, an Asian import must not be naturalized and must have a certification that he is eligible to play for his country in Fiba-run tournaments.

At posting time, Marcial said PBA officials are still awaiting a certification from the Thailand basketball association on Lamb's eligibility.

Tan scouted Lamb in the recent Thailand Basketball League (TBL) Finals where Lamb suited up for Hitech, although they fell short of the crown.

The 25-year-old guard out of Long Beach State, who averaged 17 points, 4.2 boards, and 2 assists in the TBL season, is being eyed to form a fearsome three-headed monster at the backcourt with Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle.
