Chack Cabinbin shows way as UE Lady Warriors rip Discovery Sports to complete elims sweep

UNIVERSITY of the East-Cherrylume completed a seven-game sweep of the 1st Rexona Women’s Invitational Tournament eliminations with a 69-58 win over Discovery Sports at the Buddhacare Gym in Quezon City.

Chack Cabinbin sizzled for 26 points, hitting by four triples, as the Lady Warriors used a big second quarter assault to take control.

Janine Pontejos, who scored 23 in the team’s 75-67 win over Air Force on Saturday, knocked down two triples and finished with 17 points.

Reigning UAAP champion National University recovered from a shock defeat to UE last week with an 80-48 drubbing of Adamson-Mighty Sports behind the 16-point and 13-rebound performance of Rena Itesi.

The Lady Bulldogs, who registered a record 48-game winning streak in the UAAP, finished second with a 6-1 mark while Air Force wound up third with a 5-2 card following a thrilling 73-68 win over Far Eastern University.

Centro Escolar University clinched the fourth spot and a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals after downing University of the Philippines, 66-58.

The Lady Scorpions ended up tied for fourth to fifth places with the Lady Tamaraws at 3-4 but took the No. 4 seeding due to the winner over the other rule.

The league presented by Rexona and organized by PCABL takes a break next week to allow student-players to study for their final exams. The quarters will be held on April 1 and 2.
