BATANG Gilas moved a win away from the title after a lopsided 113-46 victory over Thailand in the 2017 Seaba Under-16 Championship on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
RC Calimag scored 20 points while Ralph Go had 20 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks against the Thais, who couldn't provide much opposition as Batang Gilas rolled to a third straight win.
Rence ‘Forthsky’ Padrigao also stood out with 13 points, eight assists, and eight steals for the Philippines, who will face Malaysia on Thursday, 12 noon in the battle for the gold between two unbeaten teams.
Batang Gilas coach Mike Oliver lauded the defense of the team especially on Thai-American Aaron Wadman, who, after averaging 10 points and 13 rebounds, was held to six points while committing seven turnovers.
“Maganda ‘yung defense natin, especially ni RC sa Thai-American. ‘Yung Thai-American, marunong mag-create, mag-shoot at mag-depensa. Binigay natin kay RC para ma-shut down din,” said Oliver.
McLaude Guadana had 16 points and six assists, while Raven Cortez had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Philippine youth team.
Kai Sotto, in his first start in the tournament, had six points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks.
No one scored in double figures for Thailand with Thannatorn Kamwised leading the way with nine points.
