Sonny Thoss, Jvee Casio sign new contracts with Alaska Aces
The Aces are counting on Sonny Thoss and JVee Casio the team get back on track.

JUST before its season ended, the Mutt and Jeff duo of Sonny Thoss and JVee Casio was quick to reconnect with Alaska.

The veteran center and point guard were signed to new fresh deal by Aces management just days before the team concluded its PBA Governors Cup campaign with a 112-82 rout at the hands of Rain or Shine in Antipolo City on Wednesday.

Terms of the new contracts, signed in the presence of team manager Dickie Bachmann, were as usual not made available.

The signings were made despite the franchise's failing to make the playoffs for the second time this season.

Thoss and Casio, represented by Virtual Playground of sports agent Charlie Dy, were part of the Alaska team that won its last championship during the 2013 Commissioner's Cup.

They were also with the Aces when Alaska made the finals four of the five conferences from the 2015 Philippine Cup to the 2016 Commissioner's Cup.

But they also have to endure the worst losing record in franchise history that saw the Aces lose 13 consecutive games bridging the second and third conferences this season.

Coach Alex Compton, who did exit interviews with the players starting on Wednesday, welcomed the signings of Thoss and Casio to new contracts, though he stressed the team will have a lot of reviews to do during the season break as he felt the team underachieved this year.

"We have a lot of things to review. We have to look at the draft and see other things durig the off season," he said in a short message to SPIN.ph.

Alaska began some house cleaning on its final game of the season when it no longer renewed veterans Dondon Hontiveros and Tony dela Cruz.

Hontiveros has kept his options about playing for other teams, while dela Cruz officially announced his retirement after 17 years in the league.
