RAFI Reavis played down his vintage showing for Star, saying he merely performed his role in the Hotshots’ 89-80 win over Ginebra in Game Five of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series on Friday night.

The 39-year-old slotman was all over the Mall of Asia Arena court, tipping in misses and grabbing rebounds as he came away with 17 points – his best scoring output over the last seven years, according to chief PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

Combined with his 12 boards, Reavis also had his first double-double in four seasons.

“Well, I'll just say that I was in the right place and at the right time,” Reavis said. “That's what I'm always trying to do: just trying to be a leader, trying to do what's needed.”

“I don't really care about the points or the stats, the only thing that matters is the W. However that comes, I'll go with it,” he added. “As long as we get the win, that's the only thing I'm concerned about. My mindset was just play it out, just try to defend and be there for my teammates.”

The 15-year veteran insisted he has been doing what he has for the longest time, but without much fanfare.

“That's me, that's the way I play; sometimes you get a lot of points, sometimes you don't,” Reavis said. “There's a lot of things I do that don't reflect on the stats sheet. That's what I do and I accept my role.”

“That's why a lot of people are surprised because of the stats, but there are a lot things that I do that don't show up on the stats sheet and people aren't surprised,” he added.

Hotshots coach Chito Victolero says the 6-foot-8 Reavis is perfect as their last line of defense along with Marc Pingris.

“He’s our anchor along with Ping,” Victolero said. “He’s long, he’s quick katulad ni Ping so very important siya sa system ko sa depensa.”
