JONAS Tibayan had 22 points and 11 rebounds while Juan Gomez De Llano added 20 points on three triples as the Philippines beat Malaysia, 106-69, to start its campaign in the Seaba Under-16 Championship in Cagayan De Oro.
Gian Mamuyac had 17 points as Samjosef Belangel had 10 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds as the Batang Gilas cagers routed the Malaysians for a rousing debut in the tournament.
The game was tight in the first quarter until the Batang Gilas pulled away in the second for a 56-36 lead. The lead swelled when the Philippines outscored Malaysia, 26-8, in the third.
In the first game, Thailand outclassed Brunei, 118-25.
The Philippines resumes its campaign against Thailand on Friday after one-day break.
