Adamson downs NU to gain share of third, boost bid for twice-to-beat advantage

ADAMSON stayed on track in its bid to take the No. 2 second seed in the UAAP Season 79 Final Four with a 77-53 win over National University on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

The Falcons won their fourth game in a row to tie Far Eastern University for third spot with an 8-5 win-loss record.

Adamson is game behind second-running Ateneo at 9-4 going into their crucial match on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

“We needed that win. I don’t sugarcoat anything. We are aiming to get the tie and get the shot of gaining that twice-to-beat advantage. We just have to beat Ateneo and create some sort of a tie,” said Adamson coach Franz Pumaren.

Papi Sarr had 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Falcons, who hit 52 percent of their shots.

The Falcons led by as many as 30 points over the Bulldogs, who ended the season with a 5-9 win-loss slate.

Adamson outscored NU, 21-6, in the second quarter, connecting on 52 percent from the field, and kept pushing until the end.
