JIMMY Alapag has been named head coach of Alab Pilipinas for the next season of the Asean Basketball League.

The team made the official announcement on Saturday on its social media account @AlabPilipinas.

It is Alapag's first head coaching job, while Mac Cuan will slide to an assistant role after being in charge in Alab’s maiden ABL season, where the team reached the semifinals.

The former TNT Katropa manager is currently part of the coaching staff of Gilas Pilipinas and the Meralco Bolts in the PBA. The former league MVP however, will have to give up his stint as deputy coach of Meralco, while he will remain with the national team.

It was earlier reported the ABL club wanted Alapag as playing coach.
