A healthy Dorian Pena is back to do what he does best for Barako Bull in the coming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“It’s (guarding imports) something I’m used to. I know (KIA import Peter John) Ramos is really big, about 7-foot-4, and he might be the Philippines’ biggest import ever. But just like me, and the other guys, we got to be used also, but I’ll do the best I can,” Pena told Spin.ph.
Pena missed almost the entire season a year ago after he tore his left Achilles during practice. The 6-foot-7 Fil-Am managed to play just two games in the season-opening Philippine Cup and averaged just seven minutes and 0.5 rebound in a cameo role for the Energy.
But through constant rehab and therapy over the past months, Pena has slowly been getting back into game shape.
Though he’ll be going up against bigger, heavier imports in the mid-season conference, the two-time Mythical First team member expressed readiness to help Barako Bull import Solomon Alabi down low.
The 37-year-old Pena said with Barako Bull's collection of veterans and up and coming stars, the Energy are capable of upstaging the elite teams in the second conference.
But the key to winning, he added, is competing hard for 48 minutes every game.
“We gotta have to play every night, execute and do the things the right way to win. We have to compete and defend hard every night,” he added.
