LETRAN formally welcomed Jeff Napa as a new coach of the Knights in simple ceremonies at the Salon de Actos inside the school campus in Intramuros on Tuesday.
Rev. Fr. Clarence Marquez welcomed Napa at the ceremony, thanking National University for allowing its champion juniors coach in the UAAP to take over the Letran seniors squad in the NCAA.
“We thank the National University especially its president, Mr. Teodoro Jhocson Ocampo, whose permission we formally sought, in the process of selecting coach Napa. We are not taking him away, but recognizing him as your gift to us,” said Marquez.
Napa got the nod of a search committee formed to fill the position vacated by Aldin Ayo, who is now head coach at La Salle after leading the Knights to the NCAA Season 91 crown.
“We are all aware of the joys and sorrows which accompanied our winning the NCAA senior basketball crown in Season 91. We won the championship, but lost our coach, or more properly, we let go of our coach,” said Marquez.
“Winning may have ‘wounded’ us, but by ‘losing,’ we kept our honor intact. We mourned, but we now we move on,” Marquez said.
Napa expressed readiness to take on the challenge in defending the NCAA crown.
“We will do our best para trabahuin kung ano man ‘yung na-achieve ng team last year,” said Napa.
