Derrick Favors, making his debut after being sidelined by a knee injury, came up with 15 points and nine rebounds for Utah.
Rodney Hood chipped in with 15 points as the Jass bounced back from an opening-day loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Lou Williams scored 17 points for the Lakers, bowing after winning their opener in LA against the Houston Rockets.
The Lakers lost Brandon Ingram to a knee problem. The rookie left in the first half and did not return.
