RAY Parks, Jr. is set to become the latest player to join the Gilas Pilipinas pool after showing up for the national team's practice on Tuesday at the Meralco gym in Pasig City.
Parks, a member of the Gilas side that competed in the Fiba Olympic qualifiers in Manila last year, was among the early birds in practice when the Gilas pool gathered for the first time since the Southeast Asian Basketball Associiation (Seaba) championship last month.
Joining the lefty son of legendary PBA import Bobby Ray Parks were new Gilas addition Kevin Alas, Raymond Almazan, Von Pessumal, Ponz Gotladera, Mike Tolomia, Ed Daquioag, Almond Vosotros, and Carl Bryan Cruz. Mac Belo and Allein Maliksi were also present but were in street clothes.

Charlie Dy, Parks' manager, confirmed that the former UAAP MVP called national coach Chot Reyes who in turn asked him to show up for the Gilas team in practice.
Before that, Parks sent a text message to Reyes which for some reason didn't reach the Gilas coach, Dy said.
Reyes, who had added amateur stars Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena and Raymar Jose to the Gilas pool, had previously said that he is 'just a call away' if Parks and another former college star, Jeron Teng, want to be part of the Gilas pool.
