Biggest loser: Ivan Villanueva shows huge rise in numbers after significant drop in weight
Ivan Villanueva has been following a strict weight-loss plan and it paid off with his breakout game in AMA's loss to Zark's. 

IVAN Villanueva's efforts to lose weight is finally paying off, as shown byhis best game yet for AMA Online Education in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.

Villanueva turned heads on Monday when he finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds for the Titans in their 109-91 loss to Zark's Burgers in the Foundation Cup.

More noticeable was the drop in poundage.

The former Adamson Falcon has gone down to 221 pounds after weighing as much as 250 lbs. before he started with a rigorous weight-loss program a month ago.

After his transfer to Letran, the 22-year-old Villanueva said he was able to be more disciplined with his eating habits, which helped him lose weight.

"Pinag-diet nila ako. Sobrang laking bagay na dinisiplina nila ako na mag-lose ng weight. Nagawa ko dahil sa tulong ng Letran," said the six-foot cousin of former Ateneo star and PBA veteran Rico Villanueva.

Throughout his weight-loss program, Villanueva stuck to a military diet in which he ate controlled portions in each of his three meals per day.

"Portion portion lang 'yung breakfast, lunch, and dinner ko tapos ngayon, one meal a day na lang ako. Lunch na lang ako kumakain," said Villanueva, who bared his food intake include tuna, fruits, crackers, cheese, and egg.

Villanueva said he is now used to his no-rice diet.

"Hindi na (ako kumakain ng rice) kasi nasanay na ako. One month ko na ginagawa 'yung diet. Ang cheat day ko lang, Sunday lang ako kumakain ng gusto ko. Nasasanay na ako," said Villanueva.

Villanueva said he is already noticing the results of his weight-loss program with his improved mobility on the court.

"Sobra 'yung improvement kasi sobrang nagagawa ko na 'yung gusto ko sa court. Nakakatakbo na ako ng mabilis, nakaka-rebound ako ng maganda," said Villanueva.

As for his performance on Monday, Villanueva gave a big part of the credit to AMA head coach Mark Herrera.

"Siguro nadaan lang sa sistema ni coach Mark. Before the game, sinabihan niya ako na cut lang ng cut sa ilalim, sariling sikap. Ako 'yung laging nalilibre kaya ako lagi ang napapasahan," said Villanueva.
