CAFÉ France used a 31-point first quarter to post an 86-59 victory over MP Hotel on Monday in the opening game of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Fil-American Maverick Ahanmisi scored 10 of his 11 points in the first period to pace the Bakers, who led by as many 30 points over the Warriors.
“Maganda ’yung start namin at nanibago ’yung kalaban namin. Hopefully, the team is jelling dahil malalakas pa ang mga kalaban,” said Café France coach Egay Macaraya.
The Warriors, owned by Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and managed by his brother Bobby, trailed, 31-9, at the end of the first quarter and never recovered.
Mon Abundo had 11 points while Jam Cortes and Rod Ebondo added 10 each for the Bakers. No player from MP Hotel scored in double figures.
