CEBU CITY – Barkley Ebona scored on a putback with 0.6 of a second left to lead Cebu Landmasters-Bogo City past Marinerong Pilipino, 77-76, at the close of the elimination round in the Cebu City Sinulog Cup Basketball Invitational on Friday at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Landmasters completed a sweep of the eliminations as they head to the championship game against the same Marinerong Pilipino side in this pocket tournament held as part of the annual Sinulog Festival festivities.

The winner of the final on Saturday night will bring home a P80,000 cash prize.

Marinerong Pilipino finished tied with the University of Cebu-M. Lhuillier and the University of San Jose-Recoletos-May Abohan at 2-2. But the Skippers earned the last ticket to the finals by virtue of a superior goal difference of +7. UC was the closest to them with a +6.

The Landmasters started off firing on all cylinders and led by as much as 22, 48-26, before the Skippers got their act together.

The PBA D-League squad eventually grabbed the driver’s seat, 76-75, after a corner triple from recent draft pick Kyle Toth with 52 seconds left.

The Landmasters then turned the ball over as former PBA wingman Jojo Tangkay lost control, the rock ending up in the hands of Skippers’ guard Mike Ayonayon.

But the Skippers failed to capitalize as John Lopez threw the ball away on the inbound.

In their final offensive, the Landmasters got the ball to Tangkay who threw a bullet pass to John Saycon who missed his layup try. Ebona grabbed the offensive rebound, went up and missed, got it back again and banked in the game-winning bucket with just 0.6 of a second left.

With no timeouts left, the Skippers' Gab Banal wasn’t able to get a shot off as time expired.

Ferdinand Lusdoc and William McAloney each had 12 points for the Landmasters while Ebona scored 10 points and pulled down seven boards.
