TAIPEI - Terrence Romeo has gained quite a following after just two games in the 37th Jones Cup, winning fans over with his dazzling drives and ankle-breaking moves for Gilas Pilipinas.
"He's fantastic," said a veteran Taiwanese sportswriter on press row, adding he now looks forward to every Gilas game to watch the GlobalPort guard play.
Romeo is now the leading scorer of Gilas with his 20.5-point average through two games, gaining new admirers with his gutsy 23-point performance in a 70-82 loss to South Korea on Sunday night.
A shade below six feet, the former FEU star almost single-handedly kept Gilas in the game towards the end and added to his highlight reel with a floater off South Korean giant Ha Seung Jin and a rare four-point play.
Romeo is also handling his interviews with the international media well.
Asked about his fourth-quarter performance against Korea, Romeo said, "It doesn't matter what I did in the fourth quarter because our team still lost."
"We need to learn from our mistakes and make the team win."
